Without Faith It Is Impossible

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

For quite some time, I’ve wanted to deal with the statements that Andy Stanley made over a year ago during one of his “talks”.

Although he has made other videos since this one to explain his controversial statements (also on YouTube), he has not put out the fire he started. Instead he has only succeeded in bringing his ministry and his beliefs into serious question.

To understand what he said, please, check out the following video; making special note of the 4:00 to 8:00 minute section. It is this area that I am specifically focusing on in this post.

A Terrible Distraction

Recently, there was an article from CNN about Stephen Hawking. In his final book, Brief Answers to Big Questions, Stephen said, “There is no God. No one directs the universe.” You can read this for yourself in one of the first chapters of that book dealing with God. In the last paragraph of that chapter, he makes his final, clear statements on God, eternal life, and heaven.

Final Quotes from Stephen Hawking

So, Stephen stepped into Eternity trusting that whatever was within in him was sufficient. That he could face God (or no God) on his own terms. Based on his own self righteousness.

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.” (Psalm 14:1)

The Only Source of Goodness

The world believes that it can create a planet of peace and happiness for all people.

And that there is no exclusive source required for that peace, love, joy and spiritual fulfillment other than from some universal hope that resides in the human spirit.

In An Essay on Man, Alexander Pope claimed, “Hope springs eternal in the human breast…” 

Following his thought, most men presume that hope and goodness is universal, that it is eternal and that it follows them from this life to the next.

However, reality differs greatly.
