The Dark Hidden Agenda: Contemplative Prayer Part 4

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

As a conclusion, for the moment, to the last few posts about the Contemplative Prayer movement, I wanted to mention one more thing. 

There are a great many people within the Evangelical and Fundamental movements that live in a kind of bubble as relates to the supernatural. By a bubble, I mean that the manifestations of the Holy Spirit and the manifestations of evil spirits are seldom seen and seldom discussed in these circles.

There is even a resistance to teaching on these things. To even understanding the proper place that miracles play in our modern age.

There is even a resistance to teaching on the deeper life that many of the old saints spoke of. To even understand the vital role that the Holy Spirit plays in living a sanctified life as a believer. There is a fear that these teachings will veer into some heretical or deceptive realm.

Dangers along the Path: Contemplative Prayer Part 3

It makes a big difference who we believe God is.

And how we approach Him.

This should go without saying; especially when speaking with Christians. Because those who know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior possess clear instructions on who He is and how they must come to Him.

The Christian understands that the Bible is the instruction guide for both those questions. 66 books from Genesis to Revelation. No more; no less.

Veer away from that written collection and you introduce problems. Grave problems.

Establishing the certainty of truth and authority is answered simply. Truth is known by those who find it.

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:31,32)

God promises to manifest Himself to those who believe His words. As the sheep know the shepherd’s voice, those in whom the Spirit dwells, know His voice from all others.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)

It Waits in the Darkness: Contemplative Prayer Part 2

When discussing meditation and prayer, it is important to remember that there isn’t some formula or technique to be used. Because the Bible doesn’t specify any such thing.

We must remember that this is all about a relationship with the Lord. It’s about how we communicate with the Lord Jesus Christ.

He is a Person; not a force or idea or a consciousness we must tap into. We are talking about the One God that knows us at an infinitely intimate level. And He desires to have close fellowship with us on a moment-by-moment basis.

That being said, it follows, that whenever we desire to know God or even to know what is happening in our own souls, we are not entering into some vacant, neutral territory.

Because, this world is not neutral. There is no place that is spiritually neutral.

As in great stories of ancient kingdoms, lost worlds, great heroes and epic battles, people have found themselves subject to some higher authority. Everyone has had to live in a realm governed by some lord or king.

Whether or not they wanted to follow a particular lord or king, they were forced into subjection by those with greater power.

And, it is the same today. All men upon this earth are subject to some principality or power — both seen and unseen.

In a similar way, in the spiritual realm, we each must choose which Master to serve.

Sequoia Grove Little Pine

My apologies for a couple weeks absence.

I was off on vacation to California to see family and to explore Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Hope to share some pictures of those places with you in the months ahead.
