Hiking with God

Bath Hills Walk

Let me ask you a question.

In prayer, how do we determine what we should request of God?

Many years ago, I read an explanation about the passage in I John 5:14. “And this is the confidence that we have in him. That if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us. And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions we desired of him. ” The writer broke that prayer down into a rock-solid method of knowing how to pray. The answer: pray according to the will of God.

So, we then ask, “How do we determine God’s will?”

The Secret Formula

Designed for Eternity

Shore Figure Oregon

There is a film that I have seen many times that always makes a deep impact on me. It is called, “Powaqqatsi”. I think the title is from the Hopi Indian language. There is no dialogue; just music and video. The footage is of people from all over the world; specifically from the “Third World” countries. Countries struggling with the transition from ancient traditions into new technologies and industrialization.

The film is beautifully photographed and is accompanied by a very haunting film score. It shows the beauty, the rhythms of life, and the hardships of these people. I think Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas were producers on this. And that shows in its quality.

But I find that each time I watch this film, I have to pray. Because I am always overcome with a sense of insignificance. Watching these countless people, it is difficult to not feel like only a tiny spec on this planet. Not even a blip on the radar.

And it makes me wonder how God can keep track of every soul.

Christ Our First Love

Closeup White Flower

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.  Galatians 2:20

Here is an amazing passage. Whose faith is being mentioned here? Is it my faith? Or is it the faith of the Lord Himself?

May I take a moment to point out how critical words are? Specific words mean specific things. This is why a proper translation is of absolute importance. Many will gloss over this and similar phrases as meaning nothing more than our faith in the Son of God. This is tragic. Because God has something wonderful for us here that many versions steal from us.

Seeing Christ Himself

Goodtime Sunset AThere is a point in the Christian life where we stop seeking spiritual things and start seeking Christ instead.

It is a point where the poetry of the scriptures ceases to be just poetry; it becomes reality. Where we begin to see that the Lord Jesus Christ, Himself, is the very thing we have been seeking. This is not simply speaking of our moment of salvation. This is about our life in Christ after we have been walking with Him for a while.

Truth is not all Warm and Fuzzy

Leopard Warm Fuzzy

In the average evangelical church, there is a spirit that seems to be controlling the discussion. It is not really a new trend, but more of a generation-long, growing force.

It may best be expressed by an almost militant response one might get when proposing “negative” biblical truth. Most church people today do not want to hear negatives. They want things to be positive and light. Robert Schuller, Norman Vincent Peale and Joel Osteen are all known for this positive gospel preaching.

This movement is coming from the pew as well as the pulpit. More and more leaders carefully guard their words when speaking on a topic that might create controversy. As if the bible can be preached without it.

Good luck.

SilverCreek Rays Flight Plan

Welcome.

First Day. First Post.

This site has been created in the hope of helping Christians know Jesus Christ more deeply. To know Him as our First Love. To keep His words and to abide in Him.

It is our plan to offer a special combination of truths. To fill the gaps of teaching that often exist in our churches. Where vital truths are often missing for one unknown reason or another.

These are not new ideas, but those not generally taught, in fullness, in Bible churches. A Christian must have the whole counsel of God to safely navigate through this dark world.
