When viewing any site, especially one that presumes to speak about the Bible and truth, there is an obvious question to be answered.
Who is the man behind the curtain?
Well, that would be me. My name is Doug Mobley. I am a Christian. And have been since I was 15 years old.
I grew up in a wonderful family with a tremendous Mom and Dad and 2 great older brothers. My childhood years were spent in the United Methodist Church in a small town in Northeast Ohio.
Late in my junior high years, I began hungering for the things of God. But I did not find my answers in United Methodism. I have many wonderful memories from those days of tremendous friends that tolerated my young skull full of mush and helped me to grow up. But the denomination, as a whole, and the local leadership did not preach the gospel of salvation my soul needed.
So, it was in the summer of 1972, during the Cleveland Billy Graham Crusade, that I trusted Jesus Christ as my Savior. In that moment, I knew that I had been born again. And the Lord began making obvious outward changes in my life as I grew in His Word.
I remained in the church of my childhood for a few years following that. In those years, I became deeply involved in the Key 73 Ecumenical movement and other spiritual programs where my eyes were opened to the contradictions between mainstream Protestantism and Biblical truth. So, after carefully studying the positions of my church and speaking with its leadership, I left to find teaching that placed the Bible first.
Soon after that, I studied for 2 years at Bob Jones University as a Bible major. Following that period, I explored many Biblical denominations including the Baptist (many varieties), Brethren, Pentecostal and others.
Over these 63 years of my life, I have studied many issues and movements in depth. And have also been through many dark, spiritual battles; with the scars to prove it. With those years, has also come a closer walk with Christ.
Today, I am married to my soul-mate, Laurie. And I have 2 great step-kids, Hannah and Aaron, which are now young adults finding their way in this world.
What I hope to share with you, are truths about this life that are often not shared; even in the best of churches. They are truths that the Lord has shown me from His Word after many dark nights of the soul. And, as time passed, were supported by the thoughts found in many old, often-neglected Christian books gathering dust in church libraries. Passed over in favor of some new church-growth or positive-gospel bestseller.
My beliefs are Fundamental in doctrine. My practice is probably more Baptist than anything. But my home is at our local Brethren church where I have found great fellowship.
So, that is a bit of background. I tell you this so you can know where the foundation stakes are pounded. More open and honest that way. Perhaps, that is not all that you need to know.
But we have time to get to know each other better.
