Finding Joy in Nasty Circumstances

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)

I saw this verse the other day and it really struck me.

And even though I’ve read this verse countless times before, it was different this time.

Because, this has not been a good year for me from a health standpoint. I’ve gone through a great deal of pain and discomfort that has not diminished as in previous years.

In the past, I’ve had pain that came for a short time and then went away. Allowing me to go back to the old routines and plans. Back to business as usual.

But this time, the dark days stopped by and stuck around. Like a guest that doesn’t know when to go home; who plops down in your favorite Lazy Boy recliner and eats all the chocolate in the cupboard!

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:17)

Grace only exists in the Person of Jesus Christ.

No other religious belief offers grace.

Every other religion and belief system is based upon what man has done.

True, biblical Christianity is based upon what Christ has done.

Therefore, God sets before every man a choice in how he will approach God.

Either he will stand before the Lord based upon his own fulfillment of God’s perfect law   OR                                                                                                                                                         He will stand before the Lord based upon the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ.

There is no middle ground.

Who Created God?

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Nothing is more basic to the gospel than the simple fact of the existence of God.

The answers to man’s deepest questions and the fulfillment of his deepest longings all hinge upon our individual trust in God.

Childhood Wonder

Cloud Tendrils

One of the reasons people stay away from mainstream Evangelicalism and Fundamentalism is because it is often boring.

Yep. That’s right. Boring.

As in a lack of imagination. A lack of creativity. And a tendency for taking middle-of-the-road positions. Like politicians trying to come up with a position that will appeal to as many people as possible.

By that, I mean basically watering down the word of God and taking out all the interesting stuff. So that a mediocre version of the Bible can be served up to get the most number of people to sign onto it.

Being careful to avoid all the sensational and questionable things that the more “emotionally-charged” and “uneducated Christians” latch on to. And taking positions that Christian radio and Christian media can serve up to the masses.
