A Time of Revealing

Mountain View Above Clouds

I’ve been reminiscing this Christmas season. Thinking back on many wonderful memories of Christmases long ago. Thinking about the pure, wholesome, biblical parts of the season that are fading away due to the corrupting influences of our modern culture.

But my heart has been lifted by gazing through volumes of art by NC Wyeth and Howard Pyle. Artists who illustrated many beautiful, heroic, and wonderful things about our early American history.

However, I’m troubled that these things are disappearing with our culture’s rejection of the good things of our past. Along with its increasing hatred for the Puritan ethic of our forefathers.

I’ve watched as good things are corrupted by a culture which chooses to celebrate Christmas as a purely secular holiday – devoid of any biblical foundation.

Choosing instead, to create something that appeals to all people. Without regard for the necessity of exclusive faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. According to the scriptures.

An Amazing Christmas Gift

Candles Banner Christmas

Christmas is a celebration of God’s Revelation of Himself in physical form.

In Creation, we can see His majesty, His eternal power, and His Godhead.

In the Law, we can see God “codifying” His character in written form.

Light in the Darkness

Merry Christmas Candle

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.(John 1:9)

This Light is Jesus Christ.

The Bible says that He is the Creator of this world and of all that is in the universe. There is nothing that exists which He did not create. All things were made by Him and for Him.

But, of course, that does not fit in with the thinking of modern secular man. His view is that man is merely an animal. Just a more sophisticated one. With the ability to communicate thru a written language. And possessing self-awareness.

Preaching a “Jesus” That Can’t Save You: Conclusion – Failing to Build the Foundation

Construction Inside House Frame

There’s an old movie from the 1960s called, Fahrenheit 451. It’s based on the book by Ray Bradbury.

In the movie, the main character, Montag, is a “fireman” of the future whose job is to burn books. Because books are forbidden in that future society.

In one scene, Montag is being interviewed for a promotion by the “fire chief”. The chief goes to the files and pulls out the fireman’s employment records.

Strangely, the records don’t consist of written files; instead, there are only photos. Photos on strips like you would get if you went to one of those photo booths at the mall.

In that dystopian future, people have nothing to read. Words and truths have been set aside. And free, independent thought is outlawed as well.

What better way to control a society than to eliminate the written words that describe all the details of our lives?

Words which define Who we really are.
