Eternal Approach

Words of Iron

Mountain Strength

One of my favorite movies is, “The Outlaw Josey Wales”. This is one of Clint Eastwood’s finest.

And one of my favorite scenes is near the end of the film. Josey has ridden to make a pact with a local tribe of Comanche. They are led by a chief called, Ten Bears. He is a formidable-looking character. This meeting could easily cost Josey his life.

Check out this short clip from that movie.

Words of Life and Words of Death

Something about that exchange moves me deeply whenever I watch it. Because it has to do with truth on a very primal level. Where men risk their lives to be straight forward with each other. And then stand solidly upon that which they promised.

Reckoning Ground

Butterfly

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:11)

In previous posts, we have discussed the biblical foundation of our “reckoning”. Some call this the “reckoning of Faith”. Watchman Nee discusses this in greater detail in his book, The Normal Christian Life (which I heartily recommend).

The point today is that “Reckoning” can often be misunderstood. Even by those who have understood God’s truth on these matters.

For example, our victory in Christ is based purely on faith. It is based upon the specific words and phrases of scripture that God has inspired that tell us how we are “crucified with Christ“. (Galatians 2:20 ).

This is a fact. It is an eternal reality when we trust Christ as our Savior.

The Worship of Science

Arrowhead

Wherever you go these days, you will hear someone say that education is the answer to the world’s problems. That the lack of proper education is at the core of wars, intolerance and a host of other evils.

Now, I truly do not know how anyone survives without being able to read. That is critical. On so many levels. Life opens up like a flower when we can read.

At that point, however, we have a great many decisions to make. What to read? What to study? What to believe about what we read?

But when we talk about “education”, we are really talking about philosophy. Because, the materials we decide to read become the foundation of all that we believe.

In other words, we choose the sources of truth.

Zombies in the Bible

Zombies Cropped

Everyone is fighting Vampires and Zombies these days. Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Slayer. Pride, Prejudice and Zombies. The Walking Dead. Next it will be Jesus Christ, Demon Slayer. It may already be out there and I don’t even realize it!

Good Thursday

Greenwich Storm

Oh, how complicated Christian “scholars” can make the scriptures. As Charles Spurgeon once said, “It is amazing how much light the Bible can shed upon the commentaries.”

The Stones Cry Out!

Sunset WoosterAnd some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke they disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. (Luke 19:39-40)

Here is one of the most beautiful scenes in the New Testament. One of those few moments when the Lord was recognized, in some small way, for Who He is.

An Authority Greater than the Bible?

Cat Bird Feeder

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. (Revelation 3:1,2)

The Way into the Holiest

Clouds Part Rays

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having a high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.  (Hebrews 10:19-22)

Sanctification is a Gift

We are sanctified in the same way that we are saved. By Grace through Faith.
