Recalling a Nightmare

A couple weeks ago, I had a very intense dream.

I was living in a city where everyone was crushed under a totalitarian system. No dissent or unapproved thoughts were allowed. It was a very frightening and stifling world.

I especially remember my mental state during it all. Including the person I was hiding with who was under great bondage in her mind. She would not dare to discuss anything. For fear that she would do something wrong. Or to even think something wrong.

I remember being on a wide street with many lanes going each way. But without any traffic anywhere.

When suddenly, at the far end of the street, some huge tank-like vehicles drove by from a side street. As they did so, they fired disk-like energy bolts. Like huge thin saucers that flew down the street toward us. Maybe 3 or 4 at a time.

They would rise and fall and change direction as if searching for a victim. And when a person was impacted by one of these bolts, he would be immediately vaporized. Both me and another person were able to duck behind a building just in time to avoid being detected.

And that’s when I woke up. With great relief.

And then I realized that I could have been praying all along.

That prayer was the solution to the problem in my dream. This was how I could go to the Lord and not simply be as any other fleeing person, imprisoned in his own mind.

If I had done that, I would have been free to think and pray and not suffer the fear of bondage.

Christian Intellectual Idolatry

Hand Flicking Man

Just a note on something I saw the other evening on an internet news site.

There was a chart showing which groups formed the highest percentage of those supporting a particular candidate for governor.

What struck me were the 4 groups singled out that supported this candidate. I fit into all four groups. Although I can only remember 3 of them now, they were as follows:

  • White Evangelicals
  • White Men without a College Degree
  • White Seniors

Yoo Hoo! I wonder if there is some kind of prize I’ve won for fitting into all these groups?!

I’ll bet it’s a really special prize!!

It Waits in the Darkness: Contemplative Prayer Part 2

Cemetery Floating Mist

When discussing meditation and prayer, it is important to remember that there isn’t some formula or technique to be used. Because the Bible doesn’t specify any such thing.

We must remember that this is all about a relationship with the Lord. It’s about how we communicate with the Lord Jesus Christ.

He is a Person; not a force or idea or a consciousness we must tap into. We are talking about the One God that knows us at an infinitely intimate level. And He desires to have close fellowship with us on a moment-by-moment basis.

That being said, it follows, that whenever we desire to know God or even to know what is happening in our own souls, we are not entering into some vacant, neutral territory.

Because, this world is not neutral. There is no place that is spiritually neutral.

As in great stories of ancient kingdoms, lost worlds, great heroes and epic battles, people have found themselves subject to some higher authority. Everyone has had to live in a realm governed by some lord or king.

Whether or not they wanted to follow a particular lord or king, they were forced into subjection by those with greater power.

And, it is the same today. All men upon this earth are subject to some principality or power — both seen and unseen.

In a similar way, in the spiritual realm, we each must choose which Master to serve.
