The Natural Man – Part 2 : Approving Dead Works

One of the main reasons for writing about the Natural Man is the increasing tendency among Bible believers to openly accept religious unbelievers as brothers in Christ.

The problem with this practice is the confusion it creates in the minds of both Christians and unbelievers about the gospel. By erasing the line of separation between truth and error.

Some have said that this is about “changing the rules” or muddying the living waters of the gospel.

The Natural Man

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (I Corinthians 2:14)

The Bible makes a clear distinction between the “natural man” and the “spiritual man”. These are not terms used to distinguish between an outwardly good person and an outwardly bad person. This is about people from two different worlds.

I See Resurrected People

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1-4)

Once we know the Lord as our Savior, we must understand that God is not in the Re-hab business.

God makes men New. He doesn’t try to make “the old man” better. He makes an entirely new man.

Unfortunately, the watching world may not always see clear evidence of that change in our lives. Because we are too often distracted with trying to fix up our “old nature”.

Not realizing that it is impossible to do so.

The Day of Visitation

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” (Zechariah 9:9)

This last weekend, the church celebrated Palm Sunday. Which is the day we have chosen to commemorate when the Lord rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Which was the fulfillment of a prophecy made approximately 500 years earlier by the prophet, Zechariah.

Shortly following that event, the Lord was crucified on a Roman cross outside the Holy City. Crucified “without the gate“, as the scriptures say. (Hebrews 13:11-13)

The worst problem we face as believers is self confidence.

Talk about a direct conflict of principles between the world and the Bible!

The world teaches us the opposite of that. To have self esteem. To have self confidence. To love ourselves. And to push ourselves forward as much as possible.

The church has shifted its priorities away from seeking the Lord and teaching His word to something else.

Much of the church’s emphasis today is in trying to reach the kids. Trying to do things and say things that are “relevant” to the young adults. So that, when they are old enough to be on their own, they won’t leave the church.

The Redeemer

In this life, there are things we are able to straighten out; and many we cannot.

Failures, bad decisions, lost opportunities, harsh words spoken and relationships that are beyond mending. Life has many such things.

But this will not always be the case. There is coming a day when the LORD will make all things new. When we will see Him as He is and we shall all be changed.
