There is no end to the methods and philosophies and paradigms and strategies that churches try to employ today to accomplish “God’s work”.
No end.
And there are countless books and YouTube’s telling Christians how to accomplish these “good works”.
Materials without end.
But what I don’t hear much from the church is truth. Of solid, biblical truth about the deeper life in Christ.
Everything BUT the Truth of God’s Word
You just don’t hear much anymore about the abundant life in Christ. Or the real, peace-in-the-storm relationship with the Lord that only comes from a deep focus on the Lord. On Him specifically according to His word.
What we DO hear a whole lot about is the “work” or “service” or “love” or whatever else our churches think will bring us this feeling or confirmation of life in Christ. About some secondary thing that, if we do it, is supposed to bring us this life or peace or fulfillment in Christ.
None of which can truly do that.
To bring us into a deep, confident, real, moment-by-moment joy with the Lord Himself.
Instead, there is all this talk about the work, the programs, the initiatives, the outreaches, the missions, the coalitions, and a thousand other solutions that Christians are “supposed to be” focusing on in order to please the Lord. Or to fulfill His commands. Or to be whatever else we are supposed to be.
In effect, the work has become an “idol” to the modern Bible church.
Work has Replaced Faith
It is now quite common to hear how our work is our “worship”.
And so, churches will take valuable time from teaching the word and feeding people in the word in order to get them out of the church to do some project.
Whatever that is.
Which, I suppose, is expected to bring people closer to the Lord.
Which I guess makes a kind of twisted sense in a church that is well underway in deconstructing truth and doctrine. And the authority and inerrancy of the word of God.
I mean, after all, since we are not supposed to be so concerned about the details of the faith anymore, what do our leaders have left to stand on? All they really have left is their focus on this or that work and all their demonstrations of “love”.
As they move everyone out of the Sunday school classes and the small groups in order to involve them in the “new social engagement”.
I guess this is what they are calling “missional” today.
Where the focus is on the “work” instead of the word.
Where, at the end of the day, we’ve simply lost sight of the Lord Himself. And of the supreme importance of getting back to sound biblical teaching and knowledge and purity in His word.
Which is the only place we are going to find the Lord.
Because all this other stuff is really just hollow. There is no real life in all this. It’s all really just a form of “dead works”.
Which ends up being a replacement for Him. And for His presence in our lives.
This is the modern Bible church’s way of by-passing Christ Himself while still trying to do good things for Him. And for the world.
What we are really doing is leaving Him way back on the road behind us. As we impatiently wave for Him to catch up with us.

It’s all sadly true…..has been for many decades. It was true in the mid 1800’s and it is worse now.
