When the False Religions Knock on Your Door

Christ is your righteousness Heart

So, last Saturday morning some people from the Jehovah’s Witness group stopped by to ask me some questions.

They were friendly. And less aggressive than some of the other visitors I’ve had.

I get somewhat regular visits from folks. Sometimes JW’s. Sometimes Mormons.

I think I may be on a list of some kind. Maybe they give certain guys my address as a punishment of sorts.

You know, to go see this guy just in case they can convert me. Maybe they’ll even get a prize if they do.

Which reminds me of the churches that used to give out prizes if you brought a guest to church or to Sunday school.

A Time of Revealing

Mountain View Above Clouds

I’ve been reminiscing this Christmas season. Thinking back on many wonderful memories of Christmases long ago. Thinking about the pure, wholesome, biblical parts of the season that are fading away due to the corrupting influences of our modern culture.

But my heart has been lifted by gazing through volumes of art by NC Wyeth and Howard Pyle. Artists who illustrated many beautiful, heroic, and wonderful things about our early American history.

Choosing instead, to create something that appeals to all people. Without regard for the necessity of exclusive faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. According to the scriptures.

Sick of Love

I am sick of hearing about love.

Yep, pretty much fed up with it.

It’s not that I don’t love people; I just don’t always like them. Which are two different things.

But to really love someone is the Lord’s doing. Which is what His Spirit creates within us as He reaches out to those that we come in contact with. But that love is not about some gooey, mushy feeling of creamy mellowness toward other people.

It’s about caring for the eternal well-being of those around us.

Now, I know, as I get older and crankier, I have less patience with people. And sometimes I can be irritating to those around me. As my wife, my family, and my friends will confirm. As I gradually become the curmudgeon I never wanted to be.

However, the real problem is that “love” has become cheap.

Or, to put it another way, it has been cheapened by being so commonly used as the reason or the justification for every cause under the sun. Being used so often that it’s in danger of meaning nothing.
