Who or What Will Be Your Substitute Before God?

A man cannot stand before God on his own.

A man’s righteousness, even that of the best of men, is nothing but filthy rags before the perfectly holy God of all Creation.

So, men look for a substitute. Something or someone that will represent them before the Lord. Something, other than themselves, that they can rely upon and stand behind.

This is why the Substitutionary Atonement of Christ is so critical. Without the Lord standing in the place of a man, he has no hope whatsoever.

Regardless of who that man is.

Are You Trusting Your Church or Christ?

freedom-4025802_1280

I mean, when it comes to salvation, is your faith rooted solidly in the Bible alone? Or does your salvation include keeping or following “traditions” that your church teaches?

For example, can you say that your faith rests solely on the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross? Or do you trust some additional source of good works?

Do those works include your own and / or some “Treasury” of good works, prayers, donations, etc. that your church distributes to people who are faithful to your church? For the forgiveness of sins or for some time off of suffering in “Purgatory” after death?

In other words, how much confidence are you truly placing on Jesus Christ alone?

The Total Sufficiency of the Blood of Christ

Deficiency Cloud by John Hain from Pixabay

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (Hebrews 13:20.21)

There is such an amazing amount of truth in this one verse.

But, right at this moment, I want to focus on part of it: the blood of the everlasting covenant.

Because it is the blood of Christ that is the basis of our salvation. And it is His blood that allows us to have fellowship with Him and to walk with Him daily.

And yet, it is this same blood that is counted as an “unholy thing” by the vast majority of those groups that call themselves “Christian” (Hebrews 10:29). Even groups who actually talk about and preach about the value of the blood of Christ!!

Did Jesus Die for YOU? – Absolutely!

The Cross and Fire

Belief in a “limited atonement” is a doctrinal consequence caused by compromises made by both Martin Luther and John Calvin when they failed to fully reject some of the Catholic heresies during the Reformation.

And even though they were able to break away from the tyrannical control of the Catholic system itself, they still held onto some heretical Catholic theology – evidenced by deeply their doctrines were influenced by the theology of Augustine (an extremely faithful Catholic theologian).

Instead of fully removing the leaven of spiritual compromise from their churches.

How Can a Man Be Right with God?

Man climbing stairs to heaven

The world is filled with people pursuing salvation by every means conceivable.

Some try to follow the Law of Moses to find forgiveness and to be cleansed from their sins.

Others think that various church activities, rituals, baptism, confirmation, communion, partaking of the Eucharist, confession of sins, and a host of other “sacraments” can cleanse them from sin and provide assurance of salvation.

But none of these “methods” can save a man.
