Childhood Wonder

Cloud Tendrils

One of the reasons people stay away from mainstream Evangelicalism and Fundamentalism is because it is often boring.

Yep. That’s right. Boring.

As in a lack of imagination. A lack of creativity. And a tendency for taking middle-of-the-road positions. Like politicians trying to come up with a position that will appeal to as many people as possible.

By that, I mean basically watering down the word of God and taking out all the interesting stuff. So that a mediocre version of the Bible can be served up to get the most number of people to sign onto it.

Being careful to avoid all the sensational and questionable things that the more “emotionally-charged” and “uneducated Christians” latch on to. And taking positions that Christian radio and Christian media can serve up to the masses.

The Gospel Disintegration: Conclusion –What Love Truly Demands

Fall Troubled Sunset

What Love Truly Demands

It is true that none of us is perfect. We each have our faults and errors.

My own experience has made that abundantly clear over the years. On a daily basis.

But, despite our failures, we are not given the right to remain silent when error threatens the church. We are still duty-bound to both keep and defend the Lord’s word.

The popular wisdom is that we should not criticize others since we also are most likely open to criticism. Which sounds like wise counsel.

But that popular practice is in direct contradiction to what the Bible actually says we should do. In fact, in contradiction to what the Bible repeatedly commands us to do.

The Gospel Disintegration: Pt 2 — Introducing Endless Doubts

Death with Wings

So, what really happens to the doctrine of sin and death when evolution has supposedly been in operation for billions of years before Adam? Since death is a basic, mechanical component of the evolutionary process. A process that God supposedly used to form the universe and develop man. Which, logically, makes death an integral part of that which God called, “good”.

Why, then, should man have any fear of death?

The Gospel Disintegration: Part 1

Columb Zoo Snake

He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son“. (I John 5:10)

What is “the record” that God gave of His Son?

It begins with the first words of the book of Genesis and continues until the last words of  the book of Revelation.

Every Person is Religious

Canal Fulton Church View

Every man is religious.

Even the self-declared secularist is religious.

Even the atheist.

They just refuse to recognize that their philosophy is a religion.

That is why we are in the midst of a religious war. Even if it only has the appearance of a “cold war”, it is still a raging battle.

Faith is Based Upon Specific Words

Haceta Lighthouse

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)

There is a dangerous current of unbelief that flows beneath the surface of our churches.

Specifically, questioning the straight-forward words that God has said. Which are the specific written words God has preserved in the scriptures.

The Total Sufficiency of Christ

Berea Fountain

All that we have spoken of in this site is based upon the foundation of Christ’s sufficiency.

Our salvation depends entirely upon His completed and totally-sufficient work on the cross.

Which is what distinguishes the true gospel from the countless counterfeit gospels that exist in the world. Making faith in Christ alone, by faith alone, by grace alone the separating distinctives from every false gospel.

But that is only the beginning of the matter.

Take Up Your Cross: A New Man

Morning Dock Silvercreek

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

This is one of the most misunderstood concepts of the Christian life.

Because it is usually taught as some self-imposed pain or burden that the Christian is to put upon himself. Or some regimen of duty and responsibility we must undertake to follow the Lord.

Instead, this is about a growing understanding that a Christian must learn about himself and his relation to sin. It is all about what the Lord has already accomplished for him.

In a Large Place

Allardale Panorama

The basic unspoken concern of most Christian believers is whether they are in proper fellowship with the Lord at any given moment.

By fellowship, we don’t mean “two fellows in a ship”, as Bob George often said. And by that, he was trying to help believers understand the truth about their relationship to Christ versus the common misunderstanding about “fellowship” with God that we get from incorrect teachings within the church.

The question that needs to be asked of all Christians is, “How do we know, at any given point, that we are OK with God?”

We are not talking about “salvation” here. That is presumed to be a settled issue for anyone who calls himself a Christian.

We are talking about having “peace with God” on a moment-by-moment basis.

So, what is the answer?
