Of Wheat, Weeds, and Counterfeit Money

Money Scattered

“But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.” (Matthew 13: 24-30; 36-43)

This verse is commonly used to justify taking a non-judgmental position toward error and false teachers.

It’s commonly used by Christians to remain silent when they should use rebuke and reproof; as II Timothy 3:16 states.

But in this Evangelical age of “Love”, what else should we expect?

The Certainty of the Words of Truth

Crumbling Foundation

That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee.” (Proverbs 22:18-24)

Everything around us is changing.

We are told, however, that the gospel doesn’t change. Because the foundational ideas or truths of the gospel do not change.

Truths are eternal; and they are founded upon specific words and specific phrases.

So, logically, we must also be able to trust that the words behind these truths have not changed. That the words also must be eternal.

Or, to say it another way, the words must be certain. They must be fixed, unchangeable, incorruptible. (I Peter 1:23; Isaiah 40:8)

But, for all practical purposes, that is not what many churches teach today. The modern Evangelical church and a growing number of Fundamental churches do not truly believe this.

The Cross Applied

Cross Cloud Opening

At the core of Evangelicalism and Fundamentalism today, is an absence of the Cross.

It’s not an absence of preaching about the Cross; it’s an absence of the application of the Cross to the inner man.

Which is evidenced by a focus on good works instead of faith in the words of God.

Pour Out Your Heart Before Him

Baby and Teddy e

Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” (Psalm 62:5-8)

Bringing everything to God in prayer is one of the most common missing elements in Christian Service.

Prayer, or its absence, affects everything we think and do.

His Yoke is Easy

two rainbows field

Changes in our lives do not occur based on our own determination, resolve, strength, focus, etc..

They do not occur based on our ability combined with God’s ability.

They occur because the Lord works within us.

He works to create both the desire and the doing of a thing.

All based upon our dependence on Him to do exactly that.

Christians Against Good Stuff?

Concert Crowd Smoke

I’ve been hearing a lot of Christian leaders putting down things that are not really bad.

Such as:

The American Dream: Equal opportunity for all, an equal voice for all, freedom of religion and language.

Individualism: The Freedom of Individual choice, individual accountability before men and before God.

Nationalism: Promoting American ideals, protecting American citizens, promoting American Traditions and heritage.

Capitalism: Freedom of Individual labor choice, small business promotion, a work and trade system similar to that which Jesus knew.

They preach as if these are BAD things! As if, we should not protect these things against the political and social movements that are working to destroy them.

That we should just sit passively by as these things are being removed from our lives by Progressivism and Liberalism.

As they are being attacked by Spiritual Liberalism specifically.

Greater is He that is in You

Eternity in a Jar

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (I John 4:4)

This simple verse carries a wealth of meaning on so many levels.

Many times I have found comfort from this when walking in some dark place at night; wondering what else might be lurking around me. Dark things physical as well as spiritual.

But that is only one part of the meaning.

Consider how this relates to the personal struggles we each wage against sin in our lives. And how we are often so beaten down, and torn apart by our own temptations and failures.
